GUH Cardiac team carry out new heart valve procedure

The cardiac team at University Hospital Galway were the first in Ireland to introduce the latest technology in cardiac care. Dr. Darren Mylotte at UHG Cardiology Department, implanted the CoreValve® Evolut™ R System for transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) for the first time in Ireland, positioning UHG at the cutting edge of valvular heart technology.
 

Transition Year students experience life as a junior doctor at the Saolta Simulation Centre

Galway University Hospital Interventional Radiology (IR) is hosting “live cases” for the LINC conference in Germany on 27/1/2015. More than 100 cases will be performed from 15 international centres worldwide and transmitted real-time online to a wide medical / healthcare audience using the latest in high definition television and wireless technology.

Irish Hospice Foundation/HSE announce new round of Design & Dignity Grants

THE Irish Hospice Foundation (IHF) and the HSE today announced the beneficiaries of the new round of Design & Dignity grants which include St. Monica's gynaecology ward at University Hospital Galway.

Nine hospitals around Ireland will benefit from grants totalling €500,000 which will help transform older /dated spaces including family rooms, gardens and mortuaries. The Design & Dignity grants scheme is operated and co-funded by the IHF and the HSE.

Letterkenny General Hospital picks up award

Recently the Emergency Abdominal Surgery Course (EASC) was  awarded two significant  peer judged regional and national awards for medical education.

The course developed in Letterkenny Hospital under the Donegal Clinical Research Academy mentorship,  recently was the recipient for the National Irish Health Care Awards held in the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin on November 6th and the  Saolta University Health Care Group CEO Awards in Galway on November 7th.

 

First Meeting of Patient Council for Saolta University Health Care Group

A total of 16 members of the public were appointed to the inaugural Patient Council for Saolta University Health Care Group, which had its first meeting last week.
