The Physiotherapy Department is committed to achieving excellence in patient centred physiotherapy through promoting health, knowledge and independence, with empowered staff in an atmosphere of genuine care, interest and respect.

Physiotherapy is a health care profession that provides treatment to individuals to develop, maintain and restore maximum movement and function throughout life. This includes providing treatment in circumstances where movement and function are compromised by injury, disease, ageing or environmental factors.

The physiotherapy team is led by Fiona McGrath, Physiotherapist Manager and includes physiotherapists, physiotherapy assistants and a clerical officer.

Following referral to the service, a physiotherapist will assess the client history and, through physical examination, arrive at a diagnosis and establish a care management plan.

Physiotherapy is provided in both an inpatient and outpatient setting. The department is divided into individual areas of specialty, with each area led by a senior physiotherapist or clinical specialist including:

  • Musculoskeletal
  • Orthopaedics
  • Care of Older Person
  • Stroke and acute inpatient rehabilitation
  • Respiratory Care
  • Pulmonary Rehabilitation
  • Cystic Fibrosis
  • Paediatrics
  • Women’s Health

The Physiotherapy department is part of the integrated multidisciplinary team throughout the hospital and with local primary health care services.
