University Hospital Galway and Portiuncula University Hospital are extremely busy today (09 July) which has resulted in pressure on bed availability in the hospitals.
We regret that patients are currently experiencing long waiting times to be admitted from the Emergency Departments to an acute bed. We know these delays are very difficult for our patients and their families.
From Monday 5th July 2021, Portiuncula University Hospital will be easing general visiting restrictions and facilitating visits to patients in the ward areas by appointment. Appointments will be staggered across all ward areas each day between 3:00pm and 4:30pm.
Covid-19 vaccinations continue at the Galway Racecourse vaccination centre in Ballybrit. Hospitals in Saolta University Health Care Group are identifying patients who fall into Category 4a and 4 b (very high-risk patients) who require vaccination. This is a large group of patients, we are contacting them by text or telephone informing them of the date and time of vaccination appointment. Please follow the instructions and attend for your vaccination.
Portiuncula University Hospital holds a Ceremony of Remembrance on the first Monday in February for parents and their families who have experienced bereavement through the death of a child or who have lost a baby through miscarriage, still birth or neonatal death.
