Location of Post
Galway University Hospitals (GUH) is a major academic teaching hospital with a Dietetic Service across two sites, (University Hospital Galway UHG and Merlin Park University Hospital MPUH). We are a growing team of 26wte approved Dietitian posts & provide care across a wide spectrum of diagnostic groups, including
- Radiotherapy, Haematology, Oncology, Stroke, Gastroenterology, Care of the Elderly / Frailty, Diabetes, Obesity, General Medicine, General Surgery, GI Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Nutrition Support, Neurology, Renal, Critical Care, Maternal Health, Gynaecology, Respiratory, Cardiology, Orthopaedics, Maxillofacial Surgery, Emergency Department, Trauma, Urology, CF, Paediatrics, Neonates.
We have a structured basic grade rotation in place and are a Practice Education site for the University of Limerick.
Our Nutrition & Dietetic Department is a friendly and welcoming department that offers relevant training opportunities appropriate to role, and supports and encourages CPD.
The department operates flexible hours that help promote a positive work life balance. We also facilitate internal re-assignment, according to local departmental guidelines.
Current vacancy: There is currently 0.3 WTE Clinical Specialist dietitian, Paediatrics, permanent vacancy. This is a new and exciting opportunity to develop a dietetic paediatric allergy service in GUH.
The 0.3wte Clinical Specialist dietitian will initially be based in UHG, however cross site working will be required with the development of OPD services on the MPUH site. The post holder may be required to attend clinics in MPUH or in a virtual format.
The post-holder will work closely with the Paediatric Team to develop new and innovative care pathways in their area of speciality. The post-holder will work with the Paediatric Consultant in Allergy and the clinical nurse allergy specialist (CNS). The Dietitian will conduct joint sessions with the CNS and provide specialist support to the consultant clinics. This post will allow upskilling, shadowing and attendance at relevant study days / conferences as required.
It is envisaged that the Clinical Specialist dietitian will work in close collaboration with all Dietitians across the Paediatric services in GUH, which include paediatrics and neonatology. There will be opportunity to provide cover across the inpatient wards and the outpatients to include neonatology, cystic fibrosis, diabetes, oncology, neurology, endocrinology, neurodisability, congenital heart disease, and the infant feeding clinic.
This post will join an expanding team of dietitians working across paediatrics and neonatology in GUH. We are a proactive enthusiastic team of 6 dietitians: 0.7wte Clinical Specialist dietitian paediatrics, 1wte senior dietitian general paediatrics, 1.25wte senior dietitian Neonatology, 0.4wte senior dietitian Cystic Fibrosis, 1.5wte senior dietitians Diabetes.
The successful candidate may be required to work in any service area within the vicinity as the need arises.
A panel may be created from which permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part time duration may be filled.
