18th Annual Clinical Workshop 2025 on integrated care held in Sligo

There was a large attendance at the 18th Annual Clinical Workshop which was held on 22 November 2025 in the Medical Academy at Sligo University Hospital. The integrated care workshop, coordinated by Primary Care Sligo/Leitrim, GPs and Sligo University Hospital (SUH), was open to GPs and Consultants to attend.
The now annual conference provides a networking opportunity, allowing for information sharing between the Acute and Primary Care services, resulting in improved integrated care.
The sessions were jointly chaired by Dr Elaine Kenny, General Practitioner, Dr Kieran Cunningham, Consultant Emergency Medicine, Dr Philip Murphy, General Practitioner and Dr Ravi Garrib, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist.
The format of this workshop consisted of case presentations and panel discussions by paired Consultants and GPs on four clinical topics; Secondary Amenorrhea, Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease(MASLD), Osteoporosis and Ophthalmics- ‘When a red eye is more serious than you think'.
Introducing the workshop John Fitzmaurice, Integrated Healthcare Area Manager, Sligo, Leitrim, South Donegal, West Cavan said “The event allows Acute and Primary Care professionals to gain a better understanding of each other’s work and was very beneficial to both. I would like to thank Professor Nash Patil, Consultant ENT Surgeon Sligo University Hospital and Doctors Michael Coleman and Ann Spellman GPs for their support in organising such excellent speakers for the event. This workshop is a fantastic example of integration in the health service and supports the core aims of Sláintecare.”
Professor Nash Patil, in his opening remarks, said “Events such as these foster collegiality between our hospital and community colleagues, which is always good for patient care. On this occasion I’d like to give personal thanks to our Hospital Manager, Grainne McCann, who has been an unending source of inspiration and support for this and other such initiatives.”
