University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park University Hospital are introducing new visiting times from Tuesday 03 August. From this date, the hospitals will be facilitating one visitor per patient each day between 6pm and 8pm. Visits must be arranged by family members/visitors in advance by contacting the relevant ward or Unit.
The Emergency Department at University Hospital Galway has been extremely busy this week with higher than average numbers of people attending.
There is ongoing pressure on bed availability in the hospital and we regret that many patients are currently experiencing long waiting times to be admitted from the ED to an acute bed in the hospital.
We ask people to contact their GP or the Westdoc Out Of Hours Service in the first instance if their health problem is not urgent.

· Birthing partners of women in labour are welcome to attend and partners can attend a caesarean section done under regional anaesthesia. Partners will be subject to screening questions and wearing PPE.

A new COVID-19 vaccination satellite centre in Clifden, County Galway is opening this week to serve the communities of West Galway / Connemara. The centre is located in Clifden Community School and the first vaccines will be administered from Tuesday 06 July as part of a phased opening.
Vaccination teams from Saolta University Health Care Group will be administering vaccines one or two days per week, depending on demand.
