Cheque presentation to Oncology Patient Comfort Fund in UHG

A very generous donation of €7,330 was recently made to the Oncology Patient Comfort Fund in University Hospital Galway (UHG) in memory of Rory McNulty from Droim Chaoin, Galway, who had been a patient in St Joseph’s ward.

The cheque was presented to the Oncology Patient Comfort Fund, by Rory’s partner Laura and Rory’s mother Lynda. The money was raised by family and friends who made donations and took part in the Galway Bay Run 2022 for Rory.

Bikers Ride Out to the Neonatal Unit at University Hospital Galway

‘Bikers Ride Out for Prems’, a voluntary charity organisation that raises money to purchase medical equipment for neonatal units and hospitals for sick children recently donated €1000 worth of hotel vouchers to the Neonatal Unit (NICU) at University Hospital Galway.

The ‘Bikers Ride Out For Prems’ was set up by the Blue Daos Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club Banner and to date have provided hospitals around the country with almost €600,000 worth of equipment.

University Hospital Galway hosts world renowned surgeon

University Hospital Galway was delighted to welcome world pioneering surgeon, Professor Diego González Rivas to the hospital last week. During his visit Professor González Rivas, delivered a lecture to colleagues across the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery entitled “The Journey of Uniportal Thoracic Surgery from VATS to Robotics”. He also performed two complex cases alongside the cardiothoracic team in UHG.

Children's Remembrance Committee to hold Annual Golden Enrolment Mass

The Children's Remembrance Committee at University Hospital Galway will hold their annual Golden Enrolment Mass in memory of deceased colleagues on Saturday, 12 November at 7pm in the Chapel of all Saints, Merlin Park University Hospital.

University Hospital Galway welcomed Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly TD to the hospital today, Friday 21 October, to meet with frontline staff and get an update on recent hospital developments.

Ceremony at University Hospital Galway to mark International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day

Staff from the Maternity Department at University Hospital Galway are organising a ceremony to mark International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day on Saturday 15 October at 6pm in the hospital canteen.

Relocation of Emergency Department at University Hospital Galway

The Emergency Department at UHG is moving to a new location at the front of the hospital over the coming weekend. On Saturday 08 and Sunday 09 October the service and staff will relocate to a temporary Emergency Department at the front of the hospital.

This will result in some disruption for patients and the hospital would like to apologise in advance for the additional delays which will be experienced by patients and their families during the move.

Well Baby Breastfeeding Clinic in Galway City

The Well Baby Breastfeeding Clinic at Shantalla Health Centre was established late 2021 as a joint initiative of the Department of Neonatology in University Hospital Galway and the Galway Public Health Nursing Department. The clinic is governed by Dr Ethel Ryan, Consultant Neonatologist and Helen Martin, Director of Public Health Nursing, Galway Primary Care.

National Breastfeeding Week runs from 01-07 October and it’s a great opportunity to promote the importance of breastfeeding and the many positive health benefits it provides for both mother and baby. It’s also an opportunity to provide information on breastfeeding supports and to let parents and parents-to-be know where they can access this information and support.
