Galway University Hospitals are hosting a Career’s Evening for Secondary School Students

A group of health and social care professionals at Galway University Hospitals will be holding a Career’s Evening for secondary school students in Galway City and County on Wednesday 06 November from 6pm in the Clinical Sciences Institute on the grounds of University Hospital Galway.

The evening will give students an insight into careers in Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy and Dietetics and Nutrition and students will have an opportunity to speak with qualified professionals in each area. In addition third level students, who are undertaking courses in the relevant fields, will be available to give an overview of what student life is like when undertaking these courses.

Anne Marie Lydon, Physiotherapy Practice Tutor said ‘’Feedback from attendees and guidance counsellors at last year’s evening was overwhelmingly positive. Attendees said it provided insights into the daily life of a professional that isn’t obvious from a college prospectus or a course syllabus. We were delighted to welcome 140 students last year and hope that we offered inspiration to the next generation of health and social care professionals.”

The timetable for the presentations by each specialty is as follows:

6pm-6.30pm: Occupational Therapy

6.30pm-7pm: Social Work

7pm-7.30pm: Physiotherapy

7.30pm-8pm: Speech and Language Therapy

8pm-8.30pm: Nutrition and Dietetics

Students may attend one or more of the presentations but must register for a place in each presentation by going to Eventbrite.com, searching for ‘HSCP’ and then selecting from the list of specialties. Registration is free.
