The CEO of the Saolta Hospital Group is urging all staff to keep up their guard against Covid19.
In a message to those working across the hospital group, Tony Canavan praised the great work being carried out, adding that real progress has been made.
One month on from the cyber attack on HSE IT systems, the CEO of the Saolta Hospital Group has warned that patient services continue to feel the impact in Letterkenny, Sligo, Mayo, Roscommon, Portiuncula and Galway University Hospitals.
The Maternity Units in Letterkenny, Sligo, Mayo, Portiuncula and UHG are arranging for women who are between 14 and 36 weeks’ gestation to get their COVID-19 vaccine at the vaccination centres closest to the Maternity Unit.
Most services have resumed however some of the clinical systems are functioning far slower and less integrated than normal and this is resulting in delays for patients at appointments. There are significant delays for patients attending the Emergency Departments.
Leitrim’s HSE COVID-19 vaccination centre opens today (12/05/2021) in the new Primary Care Centre, Carrick on Shannon. The first vaccination clinic is operating this morning with staff from Saolta University Health Care Group and Community Healthcare Organisation Area 1, as part of a phased opening of the new centre.
As part of and Arts and Health project for Galway 2020, artists Sarah Fuller and Manuela Corbari responded to the ever-changing challenges presented by COVID-19 and the needs of the paediatric setting by designing a bespoke shadowbox theatre which is being shared with children in paediatric units in the Saolta Group including University Hospital Galway (UHG) along with Mayo University Hospital, Portiuncula University Hospital, Sligo University Hospital and Letterkenny University Hospital.

Healthcare staff across Galway are now being vaccinated in the newly established Vaccination Centre in the racecourse in Ballybrit. Healthcare staff from Galway University Hospitals, Community Healthcare West and staff from agencies funded by the HSE are now being provided with their COVID-19 vaccine at the racecourse.
The Saolta University Health Care Group is currently recruiting staff to support the roll out of the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme. The Group is looking for clinical staff (a minimum of 19.5 and maximum 39 hours per week) who are eligible to administer vaccines for an initial 3 month contract, which may be extended. The Group is also recruiting Health Care Assistants and administrative staff to support the vaccination centres.
