HSE and partner agencies launch Galway Men’s Health Week 2026 – “One Step At A Time - Progress not Perfection”

From Monday June 15 to Sunday June 21 2026, communities and organisations across Galway City and County will come together to mark International Men’s Health Week 2026.

This year’s theme “One Step At A Time - Progress not Perfection”, highlights the importance of supporting men to make relevant lifestyle changes to support their own health and wellbeing. Across Galway City and County, a diverse programme of events will offer men of all ages the chance to engage, learn and to take proactive steps towards better health.

Mr. Laurence Gaughan, Regional HSE Project Lead for Men’s Health Week commented; “Men’s Health Week provides an important opportunity to raise awareness of preventable health problems, support men and boys to live healthier lives and encourage them to seek help or treatment at an early stage. In Galway City and County, a very strong partnership has been established across statutory, community and voluntary organisations, all working together to continue to raise awareness of men’s health generally and promote this annual coordinated focus.”

To kick start the week, a Health Fair will run at T.Ó hUiginn Co. Teo Homevalue, Rahoon Road, Galway on Monday 15 June from  9am-1pm with FREE CROÍ health checks, information stands, spot prizes, refreshments, etc.

Events during the week include the 15th anniversary of the annual men's health fair in St Forsa’s Parish Hall, Headford on Wednesday 17 June from 4pm-7pm.

The Irish Army at Renmore Barracks will be hosting their first Men's Health Fair on Wednesday 17 June from 3pm-7pm.

Men’s Health Evening events take place in Ballinfoyle, Ballybane and Westside Resource Centres throughout the week.

An additional event this year is an online webinar entitled ‘Men and Alcohol’ which takes place on Tuesday 16 June at 10am with guest speaker Dr. Brian McNicholl, Consultant in Emergency Medicine University Hospital Galway.

Ms. Aisling Colreavy, Galway City Healthy Ireland Co-ordinator added; “Galway City Council are delighted to work in partnership with the HSE and the many other organisations who have contributed to the calendar of events. The focus this year is on bringing initiatives and services to men at community locations such as workplaces, builders providers and online. We hope that as many men as possible will engage with us during the week.”

Ms. Adele Rankin, Galway County Healthy Ireland Co-ordinator stated; “This annual focus on men’s health is a very valuable opportunity to highlight the many services and supports which are available to men of all ages throughout the County. It’s a great opportunity for men to pause, reflect on their wellbeing, and take that first step toward healthier, more positive lifestyle choices.”
