HSE encouraging the public to stay safe and help protect hospitals and emergency services over the August bank holiday weekend

As the August bank holiday approaches the HSE is encouraging the public to consider all care options before attending Emergency Departments (EDs) or calling 112/999 for an ambulance as we need to protect these services for those patients who need urgent and emergency care.

Western Region Education Network - Cancer Research Conference

Cancer specialists from across the West and Northwest gathered in Sligo recently to discuss ways of improving cancer services, research and education for the region. The Western Region Education Network (WREN) conference in the Radisson Hotel, Sligo on Friday 27 May saw consultants, nurses and members of the Saolta Cancer MCAN (Managed Clinical Academic Network) come together for the first time in person.

HSE CEO Paul Reid in Galway, Mayo and Roscommon 

Today, (Tuesday 31 May 2022), sees the start of a two day visit by HSE CEO Paul Reid to services and colleagues in Galway, Mayo and Roscommon.

Saolta Group marks International Day of the Nurse

Each year we celebrate International Day of the Nurse on May 12th, the birthday of Florence Nightingale.

As we mark the day we wish to acknowledge the tireless work and dedication nursing staff across the Saolta University Health Care Group show each and every day.

Chief Director of Nursing for the group, Paul Hooton, also took the opportunity to thank our incredible nursing teams who have worked tirelessly throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mark International Day of the Midwife with a move into Midwifery

As we look forward to the International Day of the Midwife on Thursday May 5, the Saolta University Health Care Group is urging all nurses interested in a move into Midwifery to make the change.

Registered nurses interested in training to be a Midwife can now apply for the Higher Diploma in Midwifery, HSE Sponsorship and Recruitment Programme.

Menu of Poems to Celebrate Poetry Day Ireland on Thursday 28 April

Imelda May’s Stargazer Selected for ‘Menu of Poems’ for patients and staff of Irish hospitals for Poetry Day Ireland 

To celebrate Poetry Day Ireland on Thursday 28 April, a Menu of Poems will be distributed throughout Irish hospital wards, waiting rooms and other healthcare settings for patients, visitors and staff to enjoy. The poetry was selected by Galway poet Rita Ann Higgins, who was asked to include a poem of her own.

Limited visiting access due to COVID-19

Our hospitals are dealing with outbreaks of COVID-19 affecting a number of wards. We will only allow visits to these wards on an exceptional basis, and on compassionate grounds. To arrange a visit, please contact the ward manager.

Call the Midwife: Applications open for nurses to move into Midwifery

The Saolta University Health Care Group is calling on all nurses who are interested in a move into Midwifery.

Registered nurses interested in training to be a Midwife can now apply for the Higher Diploma in Midwifery, HSE Sponsorship and Recruitment Programme.

The Higher Diploma in Midwifery is a full time 18-month programme delivered in University Hospital Galway and NUI Galway.
