University Hospital Galway recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of its Volunteer Meet and Greet Service. The event was marked by a gathering of volunteers past and present in UHG.
On Friday November 2nd at 6.30 pm, ‘Gardenland’ an exhibition by artist Fiona Cawley will open on the Arts Corridor of University Hospital Galway and will be on display until November 29th 2018. Cawley is an artist living in Kinvara, Co. Galway. She graduated with a BA Art and Design Degree from the Centre for Creative Arts and Media, GMIT in 2015 and was awarded a GMIT Academic Achievement Award.
Ms Ciara Ni Fhatharta and her Father Colm O Fatharta from Inis Meain, Aran Islands, Co. Galway recently presented a cheque for €2,000 to the Oncology Patient Comfort Fund, University Hospital Galway (UHG). The donation was made in memory of Finuala Lynch Faherty, a retired public health nurse on Inis Meain, who had been a patient in the Corrib Ward. The money was raised by friends and family who made donations at the time of the funeral.
Cancer Care West recently funded the furnishing of a new family room for the Corrib Ward in University Hospital Galway. The Corrib Ward is the dedicated oncology ward which opened in the new hospital block last year and the family room provides a peaceful haven where families of patients with cancer can rest, relax, meet with friends and medical staff and if necessary, stay overnight.
The Radiotherapy Department at University Hospital Galway in conjunction with TEAM HOPE are supporting the Christmas Shoebox Appeal 2018.
TEAM HOPE is an Irish Charity working with children and through them, into their families and communities mainly across Eastern Europe, former Soviet Union and Africa.
This November sees the beginning of the inaugural Galway University Hospitals Arts Trust Winter Raffle to raise funds for the work of the organisation. The draw will run over a period of 4 consecutive weeks beginning with week 1 on Friday November 16, week 2 on Friday November 23, week 3 on Friday November 30th and the Grand Finale on Friday December 7. Each draw will be held in the main foyer of University Hospital Galway on the above dates at 1pm lunchtime.
The second public meeting of the Board of the Saolta University Health Care Group took place this week in University Hospital Galway. At the meeting the Saolta Group launched its 2017 Annual Report.
In recognition of International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Day, the Perinatal Bereavement Group at Galway University Hospitals will hold a candle lighting ceremony on Sunday, 14 October at 3.30pm in the staff canteen of the nurses home, University Hospital Galway (UHG).
As part of the many Halloween festivities happening around Galway City and County, Galway University Hospitals Arts Trust are excited to hold a special event to celebrate the spooky season for all staff and their children. A family friendly Halloween event will be held in the staff Canteen in the Old Nurses Home at University Hospital Galway on Sunday October 28th running from 3-5pm.
Following the success of last year’s flu vaccine campaign Saolta University Health Care Group have once again partnered with UNICEF to launch the 2018/2019 flu vaccine campaign “Get a vaccine, give a vaccine”. This year’s campaign was officially launched in University Hospital Galway yesterday, Thursday, 27 September by UNICEF ambassador and Galway hurler, Joe Canning. For every flu vaccine given to staff, 10 polio vaccines will be donated to UNICEF.
