Sligo Mental Health Services nurse to represent Longford in Rose of Tralee

A 25 year old Sligo Mental Health Services nurse will be promoting the importance of mental health in her role as Longford Rose at this year’s Rose of Tralee contest.
Originally from Edgeworthstown in County Longford, Sara-Lee Greene has been living and working in Sligo for the past two years, after accepting a position as a nurse in Sligo Mental Health Services.
Sara-Lee describes working in mental health services as a hugely rewarding experience. “I truly enjoy my job; it’s an honour to work with individuals who need empathy and compassion.”
She added that she will be highlighting the significance of mental health in our daily lives during her interview in Tralee. “Through my work and personal experiences, I’ve become a strong advocate for mental health awareness. I believe in breaking down stigma, encouraging open conversations, and promoting the importance of mental wellbeing in every aspect of life. Supporting others, whether it’s through my nursing role or speaking out on mental health, has become one of the most meaningful parts of my journey.”
Outside of work, Sara-Lee has a passion for music and singing and loves any opportunity to take part in music groups. She’s also a sports enthusiast, with a love of playing Gaelic football and rugby.
Sara-Lee is busily preparing for the festival. “I’m really looking forward to representing Longford as this year’s Rose, and I can’t wait to share this incredible experience with all the other Roses!”
The Rose of Tralee International Festival is one of Ireland’s largest and longest running festivals. It features the selection of the Rose of Tralee, an international event that involves young women of Irish descent from Ireland and around the world. Every year more than 30 International Roses come to Tralee, supported by friends and family. The festival runs from Friday August 15th until the winner is announced on Tuesday August 19th.
