Sligo University Hospital to mark 30 years of Remembrance Service for Families who have experienced Child, Infant and Pregnancy Loss

Sligo University Hospital (SUH) is inviting parents and their families who have experienced bereavement, through the death of a baby or child or who have experienced pregnancy loss to remember their loved ones in a special Service of Remembrance, which will take place on Friday, 06 November at 7pm in St Anne’s Small Chapel, Cranmore, Sligo, F91 R250.

This year marks the 30th year of the service, which has continued to offer comfort, reflection and a space for remembrance for bereaved families over the decades. Under the theme ‘Timeless Bonds’, the service will honour the enduring connections between parents and their children, recognising that love continues long after loss.

Julie Fox, Bereavement Support Midwife at Sligo University Hospital said, “There is a need for a special evening for parents and families to share their grief. The Remembrance Service will be an opportunity for parents and families who have experienced bereavement to come together in an understanding and empathetic environment. The theme ‘Timeless Bonds’ reflects the enduring love that connects families with the babies and children they have lost. The 30th anniversary is a reminder that remembrance has no time limit and that every life, no matter how brief, leaves a lasting imprint on the hearts of those who loved them.

“Following the service light refreshments will be served in St Anne’s small Chapel we look forward to meeting with families to listen to their stories as they share their memories.”

“For those unable to attend in person, the mass will be streamed live on https://mcn.live/Camera/st-annes-cranmore and clicking ‘Side Chapel’.”
