The Health Service Excellence Awards: Ophthalmology Project is a Clear Winner

The award for Overall Best Project at the Health Service Excellence Awards which took place this week was presented to the Ophthalmology Service being delivered by Sligo University Hospital and Sligo, Leitrim and West Cavan Community Health Organisation (CHO) Area 1 for the project ‘Having The Right People With The Right Skills In The Right Place, At The Right Time’.

University Hospital Galway seeks the co-operation of the public to prevent spread of vomiting and diarrhoea in the hospital

University Hospital Galway is asking people to comply with visitor restrictions on St Mary’s and St Teresa’s wards due to number of suspected cases of the Vomiting Bug (Norovirus).

In order to assist staff in curtailing the spread of this virus, it is imperative that only essential visiting takes place during this period. Children should not visit the hospital as they may be particularly susceptible to the illness.

Patients and Staff in Irish Hospitals to receive a ‘Menu of Poems’ for Poetry Day on 28 April

To celebrate Poetry Day On Thursday 28 April 2016, a Menu of Poems called ‘Soul Food’ will be distributed throughout Irish hospital wards, waiting rooms and other healthcare settings for patients, visitors and staff to enjoy. The poetry was selected by award winning poet Colette Bryce. Bryce visited Ireland for the Cúirt International Festival of Literature, where she read at an event and launched the Poems for Patience Series at University Hospital Galway.

A Healthy Ireland Initiative ' Swap and Save' was launched at Portiuncula University Hospital Catering Department on 13 April in relation to soup and salad items. Also on the day the initiative highlighted the calorie count of two popular lunch items, which highlighted a significant difference in calorie counts.

Sligo University Hospital continues to seek the co-operation of the public to prevent spread of vomiting and diarrhoea in the hospital
The following visiting restrictions apply:
 -No visiting is allowed, except for End of Life situations and other exceptional circumstances, as agreed with the specific ward manager in advance of visiting.
-No children are allowed visit at this time, as they may be particularly susceptible to the illness.

County Donegal Heart Attack Patients soon to Benefit from New Cross Border Service

Today (7 April 2016) has seen a significant milestone in the development of a cross border cardiology service, which will soon see Donegal patients having access to 24/7 primary Percutaneous Coronary Invention (pPCI Services) at Altnagelvin Hospital. This progress was marked with the co-signing of a comprehensive cross border Service Level Agreement by Western Trust Chief Executive, Elaine Way and Saolta University Health Care Group Chief Executive, Maurice Power.
