Successful second Wise Roots festival held at St John’s Community Hospital, Sligo

There was fun indoors and outdoors on Sunday June 22nd at St John’s Community Hospital Sligo, as the second Wise Roots Age Friendly Festival took place.

Residents, their families and friends were treated to a day of entertainment, music and treats at the community hospital. Music was also provided by Buncrana group Revival as well as many local talents such as Bridget and Tabby Callaghan, and the Sligo Filippino Community. The good weather saw residents going outside visit some of the smaller animals of The Kiltimagh pet farm.

The Garden Room hosted an array of stalls, with an art gallery, face painting, hair braiding, cultural cuisines, taster facials, and crafts and plants created by the residents in St John’s Community Hospital on sale.

Nicola Scanlon Fox, Director of Nursing at St. John’s Community Hospital said “after the success of the first age friendly Wise Roots Festival last year, the demand for a repeat show could not be ignored! It was a wonderful occasion which reflected the months of planning the committee put in. We would like to thank all the musicians and artists who made the day such a positive event.

Residents said they really enjoyed the event. Ann said "I loved everything about it" while Rose told staff “You got it right" when asked did she have a good time. Meanwhile Liam said “I enjoyed the music".
