Media Release “Every Woman Counts: A Women’s Health Day” hosted by HSE to Mark International Women’s Day

To celebrate International Women’s Day, Centre of Nursing and Midwifery Education (CNME) Sligo, Leitrim, West Cavan in partnership with HSE Social Inclusion, will host Every Woman Counts: A Women’s Health Day, an inclusive educational event designed to support, inform, and empower women across all communities.
Taking place on Thursday, 12 March 2026 from 10am to 3pm in CNME, 2nd Floor, Block 8, The Grove, F91 A2FP, Sligo, the event reflects the integrated model of care embedded within the HSE, bringing together health promotion, education and specialist expertise in a collaborative, community-focused way.
By working across services and settings, the initiative aims to improve access to trusted health information, reduce barriers to care and promote equity in women’s health outcomes.
Selene Daly, Nurse Tutor, Sligo Leitrim West Cavan said: “We extend an invitation to women of all ages to a free public event to celebrate International Women’s Day. Every Woman Counts is about creating a space where women feel informed, supported and heard. We know that knowledge is empowering. When women have access to clear, evidence-based information, they are better equipped to make decisions about their health and wellbeing at every stage of life.”
Speaking about the aims of the event Patricia Garland from HSE Social Inclusion Manager, North West said: “This event reflects our commitment to inclusive and equitable healthcare. By working in partnership and engaging directly with communities, we can help reduce health inequalities and ensure that women from all backgrounds feel represented, respected, and supported.”
At the heart of this initiative is a shared commitment to knowledge-based care, recognising that informed women are better supported to make decisions about their health and wellbeing. The event will create a welcoming environment for learning, open conversation, and shared understanding.
The programme will offer a wide range of evidence-based information and practical support, including:
- Menopause health, delivered by menopause health experts
- Cervical screening information and awareness
- Period health and menstrual wellbeing
- Bladder and bowel health in women
- Women’s mental health, including insights from a senior psychologist and psychosexual therapist
The day has been intentionally designed to be welcoming and inclusive, ensuring women from minority and marginalised communities feel represented and supported. By hosting the event within a trusted community setting and through cross-sector collaboration, organisers aim to create a safe, culturally sensitive environment where women can ask questions, access information, and connect with services.
Every Woman Counts: A Women’s Health Day demonstrates how partnership working can strengthen health promotion and improve outcomes for women and communities alike.
