Durack Family donation to Kidney Day Ward at Portiuncula University Hospital

The family of the late Larry Durack of Portumna, County Galway, who sadly passed away on 02 March 2026, has presented a generous donation of €2000 to the Kidney Day Ward at Portiuncula University Hospital.

Following Larry’s passing, his family kindly chose the Kidney Day Ward as the beneficiary of donations made in his memory. Larry was a patient of the Kidney Day Ward, where the renal team worked closely with him and his wife, Bridget, providing ongoing care, support and treatment to help Larry continue to live at home.

Professor Paul O’Hara, Consultant Nephrologist at Portiuncula University Hospital, expressed his gratitude to the Durack family. “We are extremely grateful to Bridget and the Durack family for thinking of the Kidney Day Ward at such a difficult time. It was a privilege for the renal team to have been involved in Larry’s care, and we are very touched that his family chose to support the service in his memory.

“We would also like to sincerely thank everyone who contributed to this generous donation. Their support is greatly appreciated. The donation will help the ward to further enhance the services it provides to patients and help to create a more comfortable and supportive environment for those attending the service.”

The renal team at Portiuncula University Hospital extends its sincere condolences to Bridget, the Durack family and their extended family and friends on the loss of Larry, and expresses its heartfelt thanks for their generosity and for remembering the Kidney Day Ward in such a meaningful way.
