Candle light ceremony to mark International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day

The Midwifery team at University Hospital Galway will hold a candle lighting ceremony to mark International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day on Sunday, 15 October at 3.30pm in the staff canteen of the nurses home, University Hospital Galway.

Anne McKeown, Bereavement Liaison Officer, Galway University Hospitals explains, “As part of International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day we would like to invite parents and their families who have experienced grief through the death of a baby to a special candle lighting ceremony in tribute to babies who have died through miscarriage, stillbirth or in the Neonatal period.  Afterwards parents will be invited to bring their candles home and light them again at 7pm to join the International wave of light in honour and remembrance of their loved and longed for babies.”

Carmel Connolly, Clinical Nurse Manager, Parent Education Services, Galway University Hospitals said, “This ceremony will be a day for reflection and remembrance, and to support those people who have experienced or been touched by the loss of a baby.”

If you would like to make further enquiries about the ceremony please do not hesitate to contact Helen Byrnes or Eithne Gilligan on 091 544216/091 544619
