Cheque Presentation to Maternity Bereavement Services at University Hospital Galway

The Murphy family recently presented a cheque for €19,617.08 to the Maternity Bereavement Services at University Hospital Galway (UHG).

Laura Murphy from Tuam gave birth to twins Sophie and Rían in UHG in February 2024. Throughout her pregnancy, Laura attended the High Risk Clinic at UHG, where she received specialist care. Tragically, baby Sophie passed away shortly after birth.

Sligo Mental Health Services nurse to represent Longford in Rose of Tralee

A 25 year old Sligo Mental Health Services nurse will be promoting the importance of mental health in her role as Longford Rose at this year’s Rose of Tralee contest.

Originally from Edgeworthstown in County Longford, Sara-Lee Greene has been living and working in Sligo for the past two years, after accepting a position as a nurse in Sligo Mental Health Services.

Donegal Suicide Crisis Assessment Nurse Underage (SCAN U) service launched

Donegal Mental Health Services has become the first Mental Health Service in Ireland to offer a dedicated suicide crisis nurse service for teenagers within Primary Care following referral from General Practitioners (GPs) under the National Clinical Care Program for Self Harm and Suicide Related Ideation (NCPSHI). The nurse led Service went live on Monday, 7 July.

Dog Therapy Volunteers Alfie and George - Giving the gift of comfort at North West Hospice

Two dog therapy volunteers are offering comfort and support to patients at North West Hospice in Sligo.

Eleven year old collie Alfie and five year old chorkie George are visiting patients in North West Hospice who may be missing their pets or who would just like some time with them.

Alfie’s owner Anne Stevenson explained why her lovable Collie started visiting patients, care of Irish Therapy Dogs.

Update on Maternity Services in Portiuncula University Hospita

FIVE external reviews into the care provided to women and their babies at Portiuncula University Hospital (PUH) have been completed and shared with the families. The Women’s and Children’s Network, HSE West and North West will now offer to meet individually with the families to discuss the findings, answer any questions and lay out our next steps.

New permanent GP for Lettermacaward, Co. Donegal

The HSE is pleased to advise that it has been successful in recruiting a permanent GP for Lettermacaward, Co. Donegal.

Dr Shahzad Ahmad will take up the position on Tuesday 15th July 2025. The HSE wishes him well in his new role.

Dr Ahmad will be based in the recently refurbished Health Centre in Lettermacaward.
