Roscommon University Hospital Donates Sunscreen Dispensers to Roscommon GAA to Promote Skin Cancer Awareness

To coincide with Melanoma Awareness Month, which runs throughout May, Roscommon University Hospital has donated sunscreen dispensers to Roscommon GAA – Roscommon Gaels and Dr Hyde Park to help raise awareness around skin cancer prevention.

The initiative aims to encourage regular sunscreen use among players, particularly during the summer months when UV exposure is at its highest.

Roscommon University Hospital to hold Memorial Mass

Roscommon University Hospital will hold a Memorial Mass on Thursday,  21 November at 7.30pm in the Sacred Heart Church, Roscommon in memory of those who died in the hospital between 2020 and 2022. The Mass will also remember those people who were brought to Roscommon University Hospital after they had passed away in the community.  

The Mass aims to provide a space to support families in the grief they are experiencing, in a respectful and empathetic way.

The introduction of a Nurse-Led Urology Clinic at Roscommon University Hospital for Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS) has significantly enhanced patient care, reduced wait times, while also reducing the number of patients who require consultant urologist review.

The Roscommon Frailty Intervention Team (RFIT) have received the President’s Award for the Best Poster Presentation at the annual conference of the Irish Gerontological Society as well as Best Platform Presentation at the British Geriatric Society (BGS) Autumn meeting in Glasgow.

Roscommon Injury Unit supports TY students with Junk Kouture Project

Congratulations to TY students Aoife Canavan and Myah Gallagher from High Cross College, Tuam, who qualified for the Junk Kouture Regional Finals with their project ‘Magenta Monarchy’.

The design was created entirely from recycled materials, with the bodice constructed from Plaster of Paris generously donated by Roscommon Injury Unit.

Roscommon Palliative Care Unit Marks First Anniversary

Roscommon Palliative Care Unit is officially open one year on Tuesday February 13th. This day last year saw the first patients enter the Unit, which was launched by Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly TD.

Since opening, a large number of patients have been cared for at the eight-bed inpatient Unit that was built on a site purchased by Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation.
