Visiting Access Limited at Roscommon University Hospital

Due to an outbreak of COVID-19, access for visitors to St Coman’s Ward and St Teresa’s Ward at Roscommon University Hospital is currently limited to compassionate grounds only.

Visits must be pre-arranged in advance by contacting the relevant ward:

Visiting update for Roscommon University Hospital

Due to an outbreak of COVID-19 in the hospital, Roscommon University Hospital is appealing to the public not to visit the hospital if they are feeling unwell or have respiratory symptoms.

The hospital is currently dealing with a Covid outbreak on St Coman’s Ward and St Teresa’s Ward and visiting to both wards will be facilitated on compassionate grounds, on an exceptional basis only. To arrange a visit on compassionate grounds, please contact the ward manager in advance.

Roscommon Injury Unit appoints New Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Emergency Nursing

Roscommon University Hospital is delighted to announce that Eoin McGinn has recently been appointed as Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner (RANP) in Emergency Nursing at Roscommon Injury Unit. 

RANPs are the highest level of clinical experts in the nursing profession in Ireland today and are transforming services for patients through an expanded scope of practice, greater clinical autonomy and decision-making.

National Ambulance Service and Roscommon University Hospital agree new pathway to Injury Unit 

The National Ambulance Service (NAS) and Roscommon University Hospital (RUH) have agreed a programme that will allow for some patients to be transferred directly to RUH Injury Unit if they meet strict criteria.

The programme which involves strict clinical and geographical criteria will see a small cohort of patients with minor injuries transferred by NAS to the injury unit for treatment.

Roscommon University Hospital welcomes publication of HIQA report following inspection

Roscommon University Hospital (RUH) welcomes the publication by Health Information Quality Authority (HIQA) of its report into its inspection St Coman’s Medical Ward, the Injury Unit and the Medical Assessment Unit at the hospital. An announced inspection was carried out in RUH on 02 March 2023, the focus of which was to monitor compliance with the National Standards for Safer Better Healthcare.

New Videofluoroscopy Service for Portiuncula University Hospital

Portiuncula University Hospital (PUH) recently introduced a new Videofluoroscopy Service for patients in the hospital who need an x-ray assessment of their swallow.

The videofluoroscopy service is led out by the Speech and Language Therapy Department in partnership with the Radiology Department.

The Irish Heart Foundation has awarded the Gold Happy Heart Award to Roscommon University Hospital in recognition of the ongoing work at the hospital to promote healthy eating in the workplace.
