All hospital and university staff, trainees, and students are welcome to join in person or online.

University Hospital Galway under significant pressure today

University Hospital Galway is appealing to the public to consider all care options before attending the Emergency Department. The ED at UHG has experienced high levels of attendances this week and there is significant pressure on bed availability. As of this morning there were 42 patients on trolleys awaiting admission to in-patient beds.

University Hospital Galway launch their annual ‘Sponsor a Christmas Tree Light’

The Children’s Remembrance Day Committee at University Hospital Galway (UHG) has launched their annual ‘Sponsor a Christmas tree light’ 2023.

A light can be sponsored on the Christmas tree at University Hospital Galway in memory of the deceased or as a gift to a loved one.  These lights give families an opportunity to remember their loved ones in a special way over the festive season.  

A triduum of Masses will be offered for all those for whom lights are sponsored

GUH Frailty at the Front Door Service helps 2,200 older people to avoid lengthy hospital stays

The Frailty at the Front Door Service (FFD) in Galway University Hospitals commenced in 2021 and since then over 2,200 older patients have benefitted from targeted assessment and interventions to help them remain well at home.

University Hospital Galway to hold ceremony to mark International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day

In recognition of International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Day, staff from the Maternity Department at University Hospital Galway will hold ceremony or remembrance for all babies who have died during pregnancy or after birth on Sunday, 15 October at 6pm in the hospital canteen.

Tuesday 10 October is World Mental Health Day and the Psychology Department in Galway University Hospitals (GUH) is raising awareness of the role of Clinical/Counselling Psychology in supporting hospital patients who are managing illness and health conditions. 

University Hospital Galway supporting families during National Breastfeeding Week and beyond

National Breastfeeding Week is marked each year from 01 to 07 October, it is an opportunity to discuss the importance of breastfeeding as the normal and healthy way to feed babies and young children. Breastfeeding gives babies the best start for a healthy life and it protects both mother and baby, the health benefits are undisputed. It is also crucial that women are empowered, enabled and supported on their breastfeeding journey.

Work begins on Adult Cystic Fibrosis Out-Patient Department at Galway University Hospitals 

Galway University Hospitals is delighted to announce that work is underway on the new Adult Cystic Out Patient Department.

Once complete, the Adult CF OPD will have sufficient capacity, design features and specification to allow for best practices in Cystic Fibrosis treatment.

The new build will minimise cross infection and enable the Merlin Park University Hospital CF multidisciplinary professional team to provide long-term, recurrent support for ambulatory patients.
