Mayo University Hospital shows increase in attendance and reduction in waiting lists for 2024

Figures released by Mayo University Hospital (MUH) for 2024 demonstrate a sustained increase in activity and a reduction in waiting lists.

Despite an incredibly busy year MUH has made significant progress in reducing wait lists.

Mayo University Hospital celebrates “meet and greet” volunteers

The Mayo University Hospital Volunteer Service celebrated both past and present volunteers for the first time since the service was heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Meet and Greet team has had over 60 members of the community participating in the scheme since its inception in March 2012, with volunteers ensuring people have a warm, friendly welcome and are assisted with directions and any information needed.

Mayo University Hospital welcomes the publication of the National Inpatient Experience Survey 2024

The results of the National Inpatient Experience Survey, carried out in all public hospitals in Ireland in May, have been published. This is the sixth year that the survey has been carried out and was an opportunity for patients of Mayo University Hospital to describe their experiences in hospital.

Mayo University Hospital Reinforces ‘Smoke Free Campus’ Policy

Mayo University Hospital would like to advise all patients, staff and visitors that from 19 August, it will further reinforce its 'Smoke Free Campus' policy to emphasise its dedication to a healthy environment and illustrate the hospital's ongoing journey to being a smoke and vape-free campus.

Mayo Infant Mental Health Network Event

The Mayo Infant Mental Health Forum hosted an exciting multiagency event in ATU in February.  The purpose of the event was to highlight the work that is going on across the whole of the county, to support the emotional and social development of infants and children under the age of 3.

National Inpatient Experience Survey 2024 launches at Mayo University Hospital

The National Inpatient Experience Survey is a nationwide survey asking patients about their recent experience in hospital. The survey is a partnership between the Department of Health, the Health Service Executive (HSE) and the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA).

 

Mayo University Hospital welcomes progress on plans for new ED expansion

Mayo University Hospital (MUH) welcomes the progress in developing a new two-story extension to include extension of the Emergency Department and new Acute Medical Assessment Unit (AMAU).

The extension of the Emergency Department is at Ground Floor with a new Acute Medical Assessment Unit on the first floor.

The new ED facilities will be constructed in the courtyard connecting into the existing ED. The existing ED will also undergo major refurbishment as part of the plans.

Mayo University Hospital welcomes publication of HIQA report following inspection

Mayo University Hospital (MUH) welcomes the publication by Health Information Quality Authority (HIQA) of its report into its inspection of three areas at the hospital. An unannounced inspection was carried out at the hospital on the 21st and 22nd of June 2023.

The three clinical areas assessed were the Emergency Department, Orthopaedic Ward and St John’s Ward.

“My Stroke Journey” book launched in Mayo University Hospital

Mayo University Hospital marked World Stroke Day this week by launching a book containing resources and supports for stroke patients and their families. The book, called “My Stroke Journey”, is a 67-page guide to all aspects of this life-threating condition, developed by the multi-disciplinary stroke team in MUH in collaboration with patients.

Highly distinguished MUH Surgeon, Professor Kevin Barry inducted into ACS Academy of Master Surgeon Educators

Professor Kevin Barry, Consultant General Surgeon in Mayo University Hospital (MUH) and Director of National Surgical Training Programmes in RSCI, has been admitted as a Member of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Academy of Master Surgeon Educators.

Professor Barry was among a group of 63 esteemed surgical educators who were inducted at a ceremony on 6 October in Chicago.
