It is a hugely significant project for Portiuncula University Hospital and we expect that construction work will begin on this 50 bed facility in the middle of next year.

“We have been working on improving our radiology services and building works are due to be completed by late February next year. This project will allow us add to the radiology services we provide and will include a new Fluoroscopy Suite which will enable the hospital provide additional radiology procedures in gynaecology, urology and paediatrics. The upgrade of this radiology room will also include upgrading our existing radiology and diagnostic equipment.

“We are moving our outpatients department to a new facility which is currently in progress. This will be a modular building and the works necessary on site to put it in place are near completion. We expect delivery of the modular building later this month and it will be fitted out early in the New Year and will be operational by the end of February.

“This new modular building will be located at the rear of the hospital and will provide us with clinical space to see our outpatients. Moving our outpatient clinics to this new facility will allow us develop 12 new single en-suite rooms in the former outpatient area. These new rooms will meet the highest infection control standards and enable us to isolate patients if necessary. It will also allow us provide single room accommodation for patients who are receiving end of life care and provide them with privacy and dignity. Subject to funding, we hope to have the new 12 beds in place by the middle of next year.”
