Innovative day case procedure to address uncontrolled blood pressure introduced at Galway University Hospitals

Galway University Hospitals (GUH) is the first hospital in the country to introduce a new minimally invasive day case procedure to reduce blood pressure in patients. This means that patients arrive in the hospital in the morning, have the procedure and are able to return home the same day.

Cubbie Sensory Hub for the Paediatric Unit at UHG

The Paediatric Unit at University Hospital Galway is delighted to receive a donation of a Cubbie Sensory Hub from Galway Sick Kids Foundation with the support of Galway Atlantaquaria. The Cubbie Sensory Hub was developed by an Irish company with input from Occupational Therapists to create a unique sensory experience to meet the needs of the child using it.

Update on access for visitors to Galway University Hospitals

Following a review of visiting times at University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park University Hospital, from today Tuesday 03 May, visitors will be able to access the hospitals during the following times:

• 2pm – 4pm
• 6pm – 8pm

Parents’ Room in the Neonatal Unit at University Hospital Galway

The Neonatal Unit at University Hospital Galway has recently upgraded a room which is used by parents who have to travel long distances from home to see their babies who are undergoing intensive care treatment.

Remembrance and Recognition Exhibition in Galway University Hospitals

Staff working in University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park University Hospital have contributed to an evocative exhibition,  sharing their thoughts and reflections on the COVID-19 pandemic. The exhibition is on display in the Arts Corridors in UHG and in Merlin Park until the end of April.

Booster Vaccines for 12 to 15 year olds at Ballybrit Vaccination Centre

Booster doses of COVID-19 vaccine are now available for those eligible aged 12 years and over at Ballybrit Vaccination Centre by booking their own appointment in advance or by coming to a walk-in clinic.

Walk-in clinics for those aged 12 and older are taking place on:

  • Saturday 12 March - 8.30am to 5pm
  • Monday 14 March – 8am to 5pm

Long wait times at the Emergency Department in University Hospital Galway

University Hospital Galway would like to apologise for the significant delays being experienced by patients who are waiting to be admitted to a bed on a ward. There are currently 70 patients on trolleys in the Emergency Department, Acute Surgical Assessment Unit and Acute Medical Unit.
