CRF Building nominated for Engineering Project of the Year

The NUI Galway Lambe Institute for Translational Research and HRB Clinical Research Facility at University Hospital Galway has been nominated for the prestigious award of ‘Engineering Project of the Year’ in the Engineers Ireland Excellence Awards.  The winner will be decided by public vote.

The recently completed Mayo Medical Academy Building located on the grounds of Mayo University Hospital is shortlisted in the ‘Heritage & Conservation Award’.

Galway University Hospitals to hold Ecumenical Memorial Service

Galway University Hospital will hold its sixth annual Ecumenical Memorial Service on Thursday 20 October at 7.00 pm in the staff canteen, Nurses Home, University Hospital Galway.

The service is organised by the End of Life Care Committee.  The service will be lead by Rev. Helen Freeburn, United Methodist & Presbyterian Church and the homily will be delivered by Mr. Ray Gately, Chaplain, Merlin Park University Hospital. The choir will comprise of hospital staff.

Connacht Rugby squad join staff to launch Flu Vaccine Campaign at University Hospital Galway

Members of the Connacht rugby squad joined staff from the Saolta University Health Care Group and HSE to launch the Group's flu vaccine campaign at University Hospital Galway on 28 September. This year, the Saolta Group and the HSE are particularly requesting health care workers to get the vaccine to protect themselves, their families and their patients.

Galway University Hospitals launch first ever Dementia Awareness Programme in the Republic of Ireland

Galway University Hospitals and Saolta University Health Care Group, in collaboration with the founder of the Butterfly Scheme, Barbara Hodkinson, officially launched the ‘Butterfly Scheme’ in Galway University Hospitals on Wednesday 21 September.  The Butterfly Scheme allows people with temporary confusion, memory loss and dementia to make this fact clear to hospital staff and provides staff with practical training to offer a simple, five-point, targeted response to meet their needs.

Galway University Hospitals Stoma Care Unit is holding a free public information meeting for anyone who has had stoma surgery on September 21st next at 6.30pm in the Ardilaun Hotel, Galway. Family, friends and carers are also welcome to attend.

Entitled “Living with a stoma“, the evening will focus on quality of life issues and looking at positive influences on living with a stoma.

Cycle for Diabetes - Sunday 02 October

Cycle for Diabetes - Sunday 02 October 2016

The Diabetes Unit, University Hospital Galway are organising a 50km cycle for diabetes.  The cycle will take place on Sunday 02 October at 9.30am from the Claddagh Hall Galway.  Registration for the cycle is available here

The monies raised will go to Diabetes Care West for educational and activity events for people with Diabetes.

New Dedicated Paediatric Area opens in UHG

The newly developed dedicated paediatric area within the emergency department at University Hospital Galway opened its doors to paediatric patients in June. The new paediatric area was reconfigured from an existing space to facilitate the development and will accommodate all paediatric patients from 0 – 16 years of age and will cater for both medical and surgical patients.
