Portiuncula University Hospital Officially Opens New 12 Bed Ward

Portiuncula University Hospital has officially opened the Dunlo Ward today, Monday, 18 September, a new 12 bed ward comprising of eight single ensuite rooms and two double ensuite rooms.

The additional beds was part of the capital funding from the HSE 2020 Capital Plan, costing in excess of €5m for the design, build and equipping of the ward.

Emergency Department in Sligo University Hospital is extremely busy with long delays

The Emergency Department in Sligo University Hospital is extremely busy today with high numbers of patients being admitted, many of whom present with complex needs requiring admission. The hospital is advising that patients who attend ED for routine and non-urgent treatment will experience very long waiting times. There are 38 patients on trolleys awaiting admission to an inpatient bed and we apologise to those patients and their families for the upset this is causing.

Family urge greater vigilance for silent killer Sepsis

Moninne Bradley, from Killygordon in Co Donegal, was left fighting for her life last year as the result of the rapid spread of sepsis.

Had it not been for the quick actions of her sister, Nurse Orla Noonan, she would not have survived.

Portiuncula University Hospital has officially opened a new designated room in the Maternity Unit for bereaved families. The Willow Suite has been designed to provide a protected and comfortable space for parents and their families who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss.

As always, people who do require emergency care are encouraged to attend EDs where they will be prioritised.

Sligo University Hospital to roll out the Irish National Orthopaedic Register

The National Office of Clinical Audit (NOCA) is pleased to announce that Sligo University Hospital (SUH), which is part of the Saolta Hospital Group, has become the 18th hospital in Ireland to roll out the Irish National Orthopaedic Register (INOR). The aim of this initiative is to monitor and improve the quality of care for individuals receiving joint replacement surgery in Ireland.
