First Public Meeting of the Board of the Galway and Roscommon University Hospitals Group

The first public meeting of the Board of the Galway and Roscommon University Hospitals Group* took place in University Hospital Galway, today Tuesday 18 June. This was the fifth meeting of the Board since the non-Executive Directors were appointed in January this year.

Launch of “This Never Happened II” collection of poetry and stories at Merlin Park University Hospital

The second collection of creative writing by patients in Units 5 and 6, Merlin Park University Hospital was launched on Tuesday 11 June by Poet Kevin Higgins. The book called “This Never Happened II” is a collection of poetry and stories by patients, staff and visitors to Galway University Hospitals.

Galway University Hospitals is working to reduce the number of patients who do not attend their outpatient appointments and who do not tell the hospital in advance that they will not be attending.

University Hospital Galway’s Children's Remembrance Day Committee invites Parents to include their Loved Ones in a Special Mass of Remembrance

The Children's Remembrance Day Committee, University Hospital Galway is inviting parents and their families who have experienced the death of a child before birth, shortly after birth or at a later stage to remember their loved ones in a special Mass of Remembrance, which will take place on Sunday 09 June at 2.30pm in St Oliver Plunkett Church in Renmore, Galway.

Update on the Galway and Roscommon University Hospitals Group at the Regional Health Forum

Bill Maher, CEO of the Galway and Roscommon University Hospitals Group and Tony Canavan, Chief Operating Officer attended the Regional Health Forum Area West meeting in Galway today and provided an update on developments in the Hospital Group including details of the newly expanded Hospital Group*.
In addition, Tony Canavan read a statement** with an update on the three investigations which followed the tragic maternal death case at UHG last year.

Haemochromatosis Information Day at Roscommon Hospital

The Medical Day Service at Roscommon Hospital is organising an information afternoon at the hospital on Wednesday 05 June from 2pm to 5pm at the Urgent Care Centre to advise members of the public of Haemochromatosis and treatment available and to mark National Haemochromatosis Day which falls on 06 June.

Board of the Galway and Roscommon University Hospitals Group meets in Portiuncula Hospital Ballinasloe

The Board of the Galway and Roscommon University Hospitals Group met in Portiuncula Hospital Ballinasloe yesterday, Tuesday 21 May. This was the fourth meeting of the full Board since the non-Executive Directors of the Board were appointed in January and the first meeting since the Minister for Health announced the expansion of the Group to include Mayo, Letterkenny and Sligo last week.

New Hospital Group for the West / North West

Bill Maher, CEO of the Galway and Roscommon University Hospital Group welcomed the Minister’s announcement today which set out the composition of the new hospital group for the West / North West. He said, “Today’s announcement is good news for the people living along the Western seaboard. The new hospital group will have autonomy to manage resources, both funding and staffing, in a way that is appropriate to the needs of the patients we treat.

Presentation of cheque by the Castleblakeney Fundraising Committee to the Cancer Services Patient Comfort Fund at Galway University Hospitals

Members of the Castleblakeney Fundraising Committee presenting a cheque for €8,603 to Galway University Hospitals (GUH) this week. The funds were raised during last October’s Bank Holiday weekend from events such as a Farmers’ Market, Fancy Dress, Children’s Disco, Cycles, Walks, Head Shaves and a Night in the Bog.
