Emergency Departments in County Galway (University Hospital Galway and Portiuncula University Hospital ) extremely busy today

University Hospital Galway and Portiuncula University Hospital are extremely busy today (09 July) which has resulted in pressure on bed availability in the hospitals.

We regret that patients are currently experiencing long waiting times to be admitted from the Emergency Departments to an acute bed. We know these delays are very difficult for our patients and their families.

Neonatal ICU donation from One Year Olds AJ and Dylan

AJ and Dylan’s Galway NICU fundraiser was organised by Jessica Galligan and Tony Moran (AJ’s parents) and Anne McLoughlin and Billy Browne (Dylan’s parents) to raise money for a family room in the Galway Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

First vaccines to be administered from Clifden Vaccination Centre this week

A new COVID-19 vaccination satellite centre in Clifden, County Galway is opening this week to serve the communities of West Galway / Connemara. The centre is located in Clifden Community School and the first vaccines will be administered from Tuesday 06 July as part of a phased opening.

Vaccination teams from Saolta University Health Care Group will be administering vaccines one or two days per week, depending on demand.

Visiting Restrictions eased at Galway University Hospitals

Galway University Hospitals, in line with guidance issued by national HSE, will be implementing changes to visiting arrangements at both University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park University Hospital with effect from Monday 21st June 2021.

Significant Delays for Patients at University Hospital Galway

Patients attending the Emergency Department, outpatient and other appointments at University Hospital Galway are facing significant delays as the impact of the ransomware attack on the HSE IT systems continues to affect the delivery of hospital services.

Important Message for Patients with Chemotherapy Appointments in the Haematology/Oncology Day Ward at UHG this week

Patients who are due to attend the Haematology/Oncology Day Ward for chemotherapy treatment at University Hospital Galway this week are asked to telephone 091 544890 or 087 9200753 between 9am and 5pm for advice on their appointment.

This does not apply to patients who have already received a phone call from the Haematology/Oncology Day Ward.

DAVE the Robot Reminds People to Clean their Hands at UHG

To mark the World Health Organisation, Hand Hygiene Day on Wednesday 05 May, researchers at NUI Galway and clinicians in University Hospital Galway have trialled the use of a robot called DAVE to prompt people to wash their hands.

DAVE (Droid Audio Visual Educator) has been developed as part of a digital health project using anthropomorphic robots to improve hand hygiene behaviour of visitors, patients and staff at the hospital.
