HSE West and North West has called on all eligible people in Sligo to get vaccinated against flu immediately. Data shows that the total cases notified to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HSPC) nationally have more than doubled, showing that flu cases are surging within communities. The number of people presenting to hospital with flu is increasing and this is putting pressure on already busy healthcare services.

There was a large attendance at the 18th Annual Clinical Workshop which was held on 22 November 2025 in the Medical Academy at Sligo University Hospital. The integrated care workshop, coordinated by Primary Care Sligo/Leitrim, GPs and Sligo University Hospital (SUH), was open to GPs and Consultants to attend.
The development of the new hospital extension is currently underway, delivering a boost to bed capacity and future growth in key clinical services. As part of the construction works on site, the public are advised of a temporary change to the main entrance of the hospital is now in place.
Construction of the new facility started last month and is expected to provide an interim capacity enhancement, ahead of the longer term delivery of the Multi-Service Block.

Sligo University Hospital (SUH) is delighted to announce the appointment of Lorraine Cooney to the role of Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) Coordinator. Lorraine, a native of County Roscommon, has over 15 years clinical experience as a Radiation Therapist, and for the past two years, she worked as the PALS Coordinator at Mayo University Hospital, prior to her recent appointment.
