Booster doses of COVID-19 vaccine are now available for those eligible aged 12 years and over at Ballybrit Vaccination Centre by booking their own appointment in advance or by coming to a walk-in clinic.
Walk-in clinics for those aged 12 and older are taking place on:
Saturday 12 March - 8.30am to 5pm
Monday 14 March – 8am to 5pm
Advice for parents/guardians of 12 to 15 year olds
University Hospital Galway would like to apologise for the significant delays being experienced by patients who are waiting to be admitted to a bed on a ward. There are currently 70 patients on trolleys in the Emergency Department, Acute Surgical Assessment Unit and Acute Medical Unit.

This year staff working in Galway and Portiuncula University Hospitals are supporting UNICEF’s Childhood Immunisation Programme through the ‘Get a Vaccine, Give a Vaccine’ initiative.
Following a review of visiting times at University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park University Hospital, from Wednesday 01 December, visiting will now be permitted during the following times:
2pm – 3pm
6pm – 7pm
Access to visitors is limited to one person per patient each day. Visits must be pre-arranged by family members / visitors, who should contact the relevant ward or unit in advance.
This weekend Ballybrit Vaccination Centre will be holding walk-in booster vaccination clinics at specific times for healthcare workers and people aged 60 to 69 who have reached an interval of at least 152 days since their second dose vaccine. People in these two groups that received the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine can also get their booster at the walk-in clinic this weekend if they have an interval of at least 3 months since their vaccination.
The Paediatric Unit at University Hospital Galway would like to say a huge thank you to Carey Building Contractors for the donation of a new portacabin which is being used to store the toys and gifts donated to the unit throughout the year.
The Children’s Remembrance Day Committee at University Hospital Galway has launched their annual ‘Sponsor a Christmas Tree Light’. The Committee started this initiative 23 years ago as a way of remembering loved ones in a very special way over the festive season.
