Health Services in County Mayo are advising on the importance of practising public health behaviours in light of the recent increase in COVID-19 cases in the West.

Mayo University Hospital introduces Patient Visiting by Appointment

Mayo University Hospital is facilitating visits to patients in the ward areas by appointment. Appointments will be staggered across all ward areas each day from 2pm to 4pm.

Catherine Donohoe, Hospital Manager said, “We are delighted to be in a position to introduce visiting by appointment from Monday 31st May. This is following a trial on two wards which worked really well.

Mayo COVID-19 vaccination programme now up and running at Breaffy House Resort, Castlebar

The COVID-19 vaccination programme for County Mayo has now moved to the newly established Vaccination Centre in Breaffy House, Castlebar. Over the coming weeks the programme to vaccinate health care workers across hospital, community and other health care workers continues in the new facility and vaccination teams will prepare for the site to be used as a Vaccination Centre for the wider public.

Mayo University Hospital continues to be extremely busy

Mayo University Hospital continues to be extremely busy today (12 January) with resulting pressure on bed availability in the hospital.

The hospital is currently treating a large number of COVID-19 positive patients; at 8pm yesterday evening there were 91 patients in MUH with COVID-19.

COVID-19 Vaccination campaign begins in Mayo University Hospital

The roll-out of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign began in Mayo University Hospital today, Wednesday January 6th. Mary Neary Clinical Nurse Manager 2 on C Ward was the first staff member in the hospital to receive the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine.

The new modular Acute Covid Assessment Unit (ACAU) at Mayo University Hospital has been operational since 17 December and to date has treated 137 patients.

Newly refurbished wards re-open at Mayo University Hospital

Mayo University Hospital has this week re-opened the newly refurbished wards and patients have now moved back to the refurbished areas.

On Thursday 12 November, the refurbished medical beds returned to use in the hospital and patients have also moved back to the refurbished Coronary Care Unit and the Medical Day Unit is also operational.

Dropping off/Collecting patient property at Mayo University Hospital

Due to the ongoing visiting restrictions at Mayo University Hospital it is not possible for family members to visit patients in the hospital, other than exceptional circumstances such as end of life or critical care.

Delivery of Temporary Modular Unit for Mayo University Hospital

The new modular assessment unit will be delivered to Mayo University Hospital on Wednesday morning (28 October). The first delivery is due at 5am and the full unit is expected to be delivered by 11am. For the duration of the delivery, access to the hospital via the swimming pool entrance will be restricted on John Moore Road.
