The Saolta University Health Care Group has today, May 3rd 2018 published the report of the External Independent Clinical Review of Maternity Services at Portiuncula University Hospital (PUH).
Following the upgrade of the weather warning last night by Met Eireann to Status Red for the entire country today (Thursday March 1st), Galway University Hospitals (University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park University Hospital) and Portiuncula University Hospital have cancelled routine electives and outpatient appointments today and tomorrow (Friday 2nd).
The 3rd Saolta University Health Care Group Staff Recognition Awards took place recently in the Ardilaun Hotel Galway and Portiuncula University Hospital’s Bernie McGuire received the Unsung Hero award across the six hospitals in the Group.
Portiuncula University Hospital has this week, hosted an Information Campaign on End of Life Care in the main hospital reception area. This campaign aims to promote and celebrate the work and progress on End of Life Care in the hospital.
17 staff from Portiuncula University Hospital are part of the Health Voices Choir which is comprised of staff from across the Health Service. The choir have recently recorded two songs for Christmas, “Carol of the Bells” and “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother”.
We are pleased to announce that the Radiology Department at Portiuncula University Hospital Ballinasloe has been awarded the 2016 MEDRAY Radiology Department of the year award. The award was presented at The Irish Institute of Radiography and Radiation Therapy (IIRRT) annual conference which was held in Dublin on 08 October 2016.
The Radiology Department at Portiuncula University Hospital Ballinasloe has just been shortlisted for the 2016 MEDRAY Award. The Irish Institute of Radiography and Radiation Therapy (IIRRT) once again have teamed up with MEDRAY Imaging Systems to the MEDRAY Award to a Radiographer / Radiation Therapist / Radiology Department who deals with many difficult and challenging tasks while in practice.
A new specialist Outreach Team was launched in Portiuncula University Hospital recently. This is a nurse-led service staffed by ICU/CCU nurses who identify patients at risk of deterioration on the ward as well as patients with high early warning scores.
The Outreach Team provides advice and clinical support to the ward staff by liaising with the primary and anaesthetic teams as early as possible to respond and deliver the most appropriate management.
Portiuncula University Hospital has a long established Nurse-led Oncology Unit which is a satellite service of University Hospital Galway. The team there provide a multi-disciplinary approach to care and has a number of visiting Medical Oncologists including Dr. Silvie Blazkova and Prof Maccon Keane and the visiting Radiation Oncologist is Dr. Nazir Ibrahim.
